Wedding Flower Ideas
When planning for my own wedding design, choosing the floral arrangements was absolutely my favorite task. The wedding flowers you pick really make a big difference in the overall wedding scheme; creating warmth, beauty and texture.
The latest wedding trends call for a more neutral earthy feel, with toned down colors in cream, blush, lavender and coral, focusing on one or two colors using the old adage, “less is more”. I think this really adds an elegant, rustic look to your wedding design.
If you’ve decided to go with one color tone, then you might want to choose several varieties of flowers in that hue to add texture and drama, keeping with the neutral feel but adding lots of interest at the same time.
An abundance of greenery is “in” and harmonizes well with a neutral, earthy palate choice. Green foliage works great for generous sized areas that need to be filled up, such as a large podium or altar, and will create an impressive backdrop for your wedding photos.
Another way to add charm and excitement to your flower centerpieces is to vary the shape and size of your containers. This adds a new, intriguing look to each floral arrangement. I achieved this at my own wedding using glass vases; tall, irregular shaped vessels on the larger tables and petite, square and round ones on the smaller tables.
Adding candles in and around your wedding flower arrangements will create an enchanting ambiance. I especially like the idea of water filled vases with floating candles and orchids, not just because it’s relatively simple to do, but it adds so much warmth and beauty to the atmosphere. You can also hang candles from large branchy arrangements, looking especially nice with a winter themed wedding.
For added depth and aromas, consider plants other than flowers, such as rosemary or lavender. These alternatives will go well with a neutral wedding scheme, but bring a special touch to the reception tables. You can also add excitement to your wedding centerpieces with grass, moss, wheat, twigs, strips of bark, or even river rocks.
The wedding bouquet is your finishing touch, and often the focal point at the wedding. Many brides are preserving their bouquets as a memento of the wedding, so putting a little extra effort and creativity into the wedding bouquet isn’t a bad idea. I personalized my wedding bouquet by wrapping the stems in lace cut from my grandmother’s wedding dress. You can also adorn it with a keepsake such as your mother’s brooch or just add something special that is a reminder of someone you love. Don’t be afraid to add a splash of your favorite color. This will make it more individual to you and your style.
With some of these design ideas in mind, in the end, the only opinion that will mean something is your own. Choosing and designing your flower arrangements can be very enjoyable, and will also give your artistic side time to sparkle!
With all of the wedding arrangements, not a lot of thought goes into some of the waste (this is your special day after all) but check out our green wedding ideas or browse though our non allergy wedding flowers to find some great suggestions for your wedding.
